New Showreel and Particle systems

I am in the process of creating an end credits style showreel. The content is the same, but with a lot more cuts and transitions. It will be quick but must have the right pace, so timing is vital. I am also looking to include titles which appear over freeze frames of animated content. 

Also I have created another particle effect which took approx an hour.

Iron Man Helmet Render

I have started to render out my iron man helmet. I have built a light studio in 3ds max and used just 1 light in the roof of the studio. I still need to add details to the materials, such as burn marks and scratches. As a first attempt I am very happy with the outcome already. The image below shows my progress.

L.E.D kaleidoscope board

This evening I have experimented with kaleidoscope effects. Taking a simple pattern and applying this effect dramatically changes the pattern. I thought it would work even better by applying the composition in to a walled particle system. It still needs a few more hours work, along with lighting but it will be a good addition to my showreel.

Iron Man Helmet - Model Complete

I have now finished the Iron Man Helmet. Took approx two days, maybe less. Very pleased with the final model as having looked around the internet there are a lot of incorrect attempts at this. I feel the key features you have to get spot on are the eyes and face plate. Will start the texturing tomorrow night in vray. Also a clay/wireframe render to show polygons.

Iron Man Helmet - Time taken = 6 Hours

Figured as I am in an "Avengers mood" this week I would have a try at modelling the Iron Man helmet. This is what I have after an hour. Need to do a bit of planning ahead so that all the sides match up. I started with one plane and extruded / detached edges to continue it.



Above is the finished shell. Needs a bit of smoothing and flattening off but it is not far away from the finished model. Need to add bolts and a few minor details which should not take more than 1 hour. Then it's on to the texturing and lighting in vray.

Back to VRAY

Did a lighting tutorial and had a play around. Seems that the vray sun light system works best for me. This scene also has a couple of vray lights shining through the windows.Will make some furniture next to add to this scene.

VRAY update


Went back to the drawing board with my plane. Gave it a re-skin to match my new branding, and attached a hdri image to a vray sun light and sky dome.

New Branding

Over the weekend I made a decision to re-brand my portfolio. Eventually I will be rebuilding my website using adobe Muse. This will give me much more license for design as it takes all coding restrictions away. It will take a short amount of time to complete and updating is a much easier process. 

I am also in the middle of constructing my showreel.

Monster Birthday card

Had a few hours spare so thought I would develop the monster graphic I started a few months ago. This may be a future idea down the line to offer a card design service along with other party supplies such as banners, invitations etc.

Gangster comic book re-made


Had a few hours to kill some time as I am currently rendering a flight scene relating to my previous post. So thought I would go back to my comic book artwork I created in photoshop. The first version was only created in a document 800 x 450 px. As I am currently building my showreel I want to include this piece of work in it, so a re-make was required. The idea is to have this layered in after effects allowing me to create a 3d photo effect by offsetting different parts with different movement speeds.

VRAY - Aircraft Sunset Scene

I am currently working on a sunset scene using the vray render engine. I originally textured my aircraft model using mental ray. However for a moving sequence using the vray sun light light setup can help bring my idea to life. I will create a moving scene which will be rendered out as a png sequence. Then I will take it in to after effects and composite it on to a spherical moving background. Using after effects "corner pin" effect will help create a realistic background movement. 

Eventually I will add some lights to the aircraft and also put clouds in the scene.

Final Result




I found this was good enough and had the effect I was looking for but the clouds did not look quite right. So went back and had another go with a different cloud setup.

Flares

After a few hours messing around I finally got the effect I was looking for. I have added some flares to the scene to help with transitions. Will now push on with the next section which is the loading of the interface.

Nearly finished my holograms project. Added more of an interface with changing text and flicker effects. Also created a space warp in after effects for the finish.
